Buying Bitcoin in the US usually requires interacting with a regulated exchange. Compliant, legal exchanges are all required to collect personal information from investors to comply with "Know Your Customer" (KYC) and "Anti-Money Laundering" (AML) regulations. So, when buying/investing, it is normal and expected that you will need to share your personal information (including name, address, SSN, and more) with your chosen exchange. This is an unfortunate situation since Bitcoin symbolizes a freer, more private financial world, but it is a necessary hurdle during this period while Bitcoin bootstraps itself into human society.
